He secured an All-India 46th rank in NEET Pre-PG exam in 2013, through which he pursued MDS in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics from Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore, from 2013-2016. What is the average duration of braces treatment?
The average time duration of braces treatment generally lasts for about 1.5-2 years (18-24 months).
Is braces treatment painful - initially, after every appointment and when braces are removed? Why does pain occur?
No, braces treatment is not painful. You might feel a little tightness on your teeth initially and after every appointment for just 2-3 days. Thereafter, the body adapts itself to the pressure applied by the wires. The tightness vanishes completely as soon as braces are removed. Pain occurs because of the pressure applied by wires on the teeth.
What is the best age to get braces treatment done?
There’s no best age to get braces treatment done. You can get your treatment if you are a teenager or an adult above 50 years of age. However, the treatment response and stability are maximum in teenagers. As the person ages, the duration of braces treatment might also increase proportionately, because the jaw bone density increases with age. It takes longer time to move the teeth through a denser jaw bone in adults, than porous jaw bone in teenagers and young adults.
Will braces affect my speech?
In the initial few days, braces might affect your speech. But the tongue and other organs of the mouth have this interesting capability of acclimatization and adaptation to any external forces. The speech gets absolutely normal after a few days of constantly wearing braces.
Does it feel awkward in public with braces on?
With metal braces, it might feel a bit awkward in public. But with ceramic braces and aligners, this does not happen. Teenagers, who are under extreme peer pressure, especially girls, prefer ceramic braces or aligners over conventional metal braces, in general, because the colour of the braces get entirely merged with that of the teeth. Plus, with aligners, there’s no display of unsightly metallic wires and brackets, and consequently, less discomfort and less abrasions in the oral mucosa.
Why Self-ligating braces?
In conventional braces, the wire needs to be tied manually to each bracket individually using certain coloured or transparent elastomeric modules or stainless-steel ligature wires. These attachments attract food particles and hence, maintaining adequate amount of hygiene could be challenging. But in self-ligating braces, there’s no need for an additional attachment to fix the wire with the brackets. This mechanism is in-built in the bracket architecture itself. Hence, it is easier to maintain hygiene. Certain studies also state that friction in self-ligating braces is slightly lesser than in conventional braces, which leads to reduction in the total treatment time.

appointment. In fact, this is the unique standing point (USP) of our clinic and we want our patients to take maximum benefit out of this.
How much does braces treatment cost?
Braces treatment costs anywhere between Rs. 35000 to Rs. 3.5 Lakhs, depending on the type of braces or aligners and the complexity of the case. The most appropriate braces type for the patients is discussed and decided upon after a physical consultation with the Orthodontist at his clinic.
Do I have to pay for braces treatment in advance? What are the methods of making payments?
You need to pay a certain amount as down payment in the first appointment; usually 1/3rd of the total amount. Rest of the amount is collected every month at each visit in equal instalments (without additional charges in the form of interest). Payments are collected as cash, or through UPI, supported by Google Pay, PhonePe, PayTM, Bhim App, BharatPe, PayZapp, MobiKwik, SBI Pay, Axis Pay, BOB UPI or any other bank-specific UPI application on Android or iOS user interface platform. Payments can also be made by NEFT or IMPS modes. Cheques and card payments are usually not preferred.
How are payment records maintained?
Payment records are maintained both with the patients as well as the clinic. Patients can have a crystal-clear overview regarding how much payment has been made already and how many instalments are remaining. CONFI-DENTAL SMILE CLINIC doesn’t want any ambiguity / confusion for its patients in matters related to finances.
Are there any other hidden charges?
No. There are no hidden charges. All matters related to finances are discussed before starting with the treatment. However, X-Rays, scaling & polishing of teeth, fillings of the teeth and other dental treatment (if needed) are charged separately.
Is braces / orthodontic treatment worth the money spent?
Every single penny spent on braces / Orthodontic treatment is worth! You will realize the value of perfectly aligned smile after completion of the treatment when the doctor shares pictures of your pre-treatment and post-treatment smile.
How appointments are scheduled for braces treatment?
Appointments are scheduled once every month, except Sundays, after discussing the suitable dates with the patients / patients’ parents / attendants on which they can visit conveniently. Reminder text messages / WhatsApp messages are also sent to all patients individually scheduled for the day on their registered mobile numbers on the day of the appointment, usually in the mornings, well in advance. If, for some reason, the patient is unable to visit, we expect a revert on the reminder text, so that appointment rescheduling can be done without any hassle.
Is tooth extraction compulsory for braces treatment?
Absolutely not! Whether tooth extraction is required or not is totally case-specific. It is decided after physical consultation with the Orthodontist and after analyzing certain X-rays. The process is communicated in clear easy-to-understand language to the patient and extractions (if required) are carried out only after informing the patient and his / her parents / relatives / friends about it, and in a painless manner.
Why retainers are given?
Retainers are mandatorily given to after each and every patient after braces treatment. Retainers help in maintaining the position of the teeth after braces are removed, by breaking the ‘teeth memory’. There are certain types of retainers. The best suited retainer for the patient is decided after completion of active braces treatment. You will need frequent checkups of retainers only once in 4-6 months, unlike active braces treatment, wherein you need to visit the Orthodontist once every month.
